Who am I?

My name is Joseph "Joey" Van Deurzen and I am a lifelong Wisconsinite who was raised by parents who both grew up on dairy farms. When I was in middle and high school I worked on one of my grandparents' farm and at another dairy. I spent my entire K-12 education in the West De Pere School District, where I learned the value of a great public education and amazing teachers. I have taken what I learned in the district into account as I make my way through my college education.

Some of my favorite memories are sitting in the living room watching the nightly news with my mom, but in the past few years, I have felt more dread than before. This is saying something, as I can remember getting off the bus to my mom watching live reporting after school shootings and bombings several times. I believe that growing up in this news climate gives young people a different perspective; one that is much needed in the changing world we are coming to inherit.

I can milk a cow and code a computer. My dad and grandpa taught me how to drive a tractor and how to value the work I complete using it. When I was little I loved going to the barn so much that several times I even fell into the gutter. This is to say that I have the skills and the drive to fight hard for our district while I'm in the Capitol.

I know I may be young, but my experiences have led me to where I am today. I will fight hard for you and for the future we all will build together.
